Author J.S. Crews was born and raised in the coalfields of southern West Virginia. He graduated from Mount View High School in the tiny town of Welch, WV. He spent the majority of those years on homebound instruction, however, due to a series of surgeries. His teachers would come to his home in the evenings, leaving plenty of time for one of his favorite pastimes: reading. This passion would naturally evolve into a desire to write.
He earned a degree in Criminal Justice, attending both Bluefield State College and Mountain State University (now defunct). A Master’s degree from American Military University followed, and he teaches adjunct criminal justice classes when opportunities arise. Never far from his mind, though, was his hobby of writing. During this period, he worked occasionally on the stories he had begun as a teen. Over time, he expanded these into a planned series of novels and added layers upon layers of detail to the world he had created. He lists George R.R. Martin, Raymond E. Feist, and R.A. Salvatore as major genre-specific writing influences. A Lord’s Duty is his first novel.
Born with a genetic neuromuscular disorder, he has been confined to a wheelchair for most of his life. As a result, he has committed to donating a portion of the proceeds of all book sales to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Author J.S. Crews is a member of Phi Sigma Phi National Fraternity, Inc.. He is also an avid animal lover; and an advocate for emergency preparedness and liberty-related causes. He still resides in southern West Virginia.
